Alfred Döblin Scholarship 2025 – Applications now possible
The Alfred Döblin Prize Foundation awards residency scholarships in the Alfred Döblin House in Wewelsfleth (Schleswig-Holstein). The House was left by Günter Grass to the Federal State of Berlin for the promotion of writers; the scholarships are provided to the Alfred Döblin Prize Foundation by the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Gesellschaftlichen Zusammenhalt (Berlin Senate Department of Culture).
Due to ongoing renovation work, residencies in the Alfred Döblin House in Wewelsfleth will not be possible until 2026. For 2025, the Alfred Döblin Prize Foundation will award work stipends.
The purpose of the Alfred Döblin Scholarship is to promote Berlin writers who have proven their ability in previous publications or demonstrated their literary aptitude in work samples. The Alfred Döblin Scholarships are intended to enable the writers to concentrate on a literary work. This entails the beginning of planned literary works, the realising of drafts, as well as the continuing or completion of works already begun. Scholarships are usually awarded for a period of three months. Each laureate receives a monthly allowance of expected 2,000 Euros.
A three-member jury will decide over the applications (completed application form and work samples). The jury members will be appointed by the Akademie der Künste, the P.E.N. Centre of the Federal Republic of Germany, and the Berlin Senate Department of Culture.
