By-Products of Love. An Exhibition with Works by Elfi Mikesch, Rosa von Praunheim, and Werner Schroeter
Under the title By-Products of Love, a reference to Werner Schroeter's film essay Poussières d'amour, the exhibition focuses on three artists who were bound together by an intense, life-long friendship: photographer and director Elfi Mikesch, filmmaker and activist Rosa von Praunheim and theatre, opera and film director Werner Schroeter (1945–2010). In the 1960s, they were already addressing questions of gender, crossing media boundaries and utopia, driven by the search for "other films, other images, and alternative lifestyles" (Elfi Mikesch).
With photographs, films, sound installations, drawings and documents, the exhibition shows for the first time the various aesthetic and biographical relationships between them. Their shared roots in the West Berlin underground scene and American subculture are as visible as their dynamic relationship that led them along diverse paths of life and artistic expressions. By-Products of Love provides a bridge over five decades to the current work of Elfi Mikesch and Rosa von Praunheim.
Closing event with music by Sigrid Grajek, Mona Mur & Gerhard A. Schiewe as well as Rummelsnuff.
The exhibtion is open on Sun, 12 Aug, 11 am – 7 pm, with a guided tour at noon.
