Vita
Aled Smith is a composer/sound artist whose work explores friction and the point of disintegration between materials which are then reformed and rebuilt into noisy, glitch-laden worlds. This work is embodied as physical constructions, spatialised groups and installations, often featuring analogue approaches to amplification and electronics.
His work has been extensively performed around the world. Recent collaborations have included: Rage Trombones, Moscow Contemporary Music Ensemble, Jason Alder, Silvia Lucas, Aleksandra Demowska-Madejska, Russian National Folk Ensemble, E-MEX ensemble, TAK Ensemble, Latvian Radio Chorus, Goska Isphording and Milosz Drogowski, to name a few. He studied at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, UK, achieving a Masters and PhD in composition. He was subsequently awarded a Gold Medal for composition from the same institution.
