Final Days
John Heartfield – Photography plus Dynamite
exhibition on view on Pariser Platz until 23 August
Book time-slot tickets: adk.de/tickets
The exhibition John Heartfield – Photography plus Dynamite closes in six days. John Heartfield (1891–1968) was one of the 20th century’s most innovative artists. His now iconic political photomontages were beacons in the fight against National Socialism. The exhibition delves into the many facets of his oeuvre ‒ ranging from montages for the political press and book designs to set designs for theatre ‒ examing Heartfield’s methods as well as the powerful image motifs he used in very different contexts. Previously largely unknown works and documents elucidate the artist’s complex relationships to Bertolt Brecht, George Grosz, Wieland Herzfelde and Erwin Piscator.
The exhibition was co-curated by Angela Lammert, Rosa von der Schulenburg and Anna Schultz. The publication accompanying the exhibition is published by Hirmer Verlag and can be purchased at the Akademie der Künste. The Museum de Fundatie, Zwolle, Netherlands (17 January – 3 May 2021) and the Royal Academy of Arts, London (27 June – 26 September 2021) are additional exhibition venues.
