The Critical Art of Argentinian Comics
The comic is a leading art form in Argentina, and the country’s cultural landscape would be inconceivable without it. Authors such as Héctor Germán Oesterheld and comics artists including Alberto Breccia, Hugo Pratt, Quino and REP have shaped the imaginations of generations. They are not only the critical conscience of an immigrant society, but also its imaginary consciousness. With a dedicated façade installation at Pariser Platz, the Akademie der Künste is highlighting this unique form of politically artistic expression in Argentina. The 3rd Academy Discussion explores and debates “le neuvième art“ with a panel including Jeanine Meerapfel, filmmaker and President of the Akademie der Künste, Miguel Repiso, REP, the lyrical and critical conscience of Argentinian comics art, Johann Ulrich, enthusiastic publisher and promoter of the comic in Germany, and Anna Kemper whose work as an author addresses the multi-faceted connections between the comic and dictatorship.
The Academy discussion is in German and Spanish with simultaneous translation.
In collaboration with the Embassy of the Argentine Republic.
