In the mid-1970s, the writer and eternal taunter Peter Rühmkorf (1929–2008) developed an affinity for the Middle High German poet Walther von der Vogelweide that was to be of great significance for his further lyrical production. He translated many of his poems into contemporary German, wrote an important essay about the “bard and peddler” and began corresponding with the medievalist Peter Wapnewski.
