Klaus Wittkugel. Reflection, Construction

Exhibition

As one of the most important graphic artists in the former GDR, Klaus Wittkugel's (1910–1985) socialist messages made an impact on several generations of "workers and farmers". Traces of him are still visible today in Berlin, for example, in the signage of the Kino International and at the Café Moskau on Karl-Marx-Allee. In numerous work for official commissions in the GDR Wittkugel put his individual aesthetics of self-reflexive photography and typographical construction into effect. The presentation includes both original photographs from the 1930s and posters, as well as printed works from the 1950s and 1960s in the art collection of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin.
