Children in Exile
The exhibition shows photos, letters and manuscripts in the Akademie's archives from the estates of artists who were forced to go into exile with their children between 1933 and 1945. The focus is on the stories of the sons and daughters of Walter Benjamin, Bertolt Brecht and Helene Weigel, Paul Dessau, George Grosz, Wieland Herzfelde, Alfred Kerr, Anna Seghers, Friedrich Wolf, Arnold Zweig and others.
The current segment of the exhibition presents projects by children, Akademie members and scholars, who view today's migration as both a challenge and an enrichment.
