Dance Archive Box Berlin.
Valeska Gert Visiting Professor Nanako Nakajima

Presentation

In the Dance Archive Box project, Japanese dance professionals archived their works in individual archive boxes using props, associative texts, or objects before handing these boxes over to artists from the Asia-Pacific region for re-performance. Together with dance studies students from the Freie Universität Berlin, the dance scholar Nanako Nakajima examines this artistic process and its relationship between responsibility and freedom, reconstruction and recreation by using selected archive boxes and encouraging new performative appropriations.

In addition to the presentation at the Akademie der Künste, an internal non-public dialogue will take place at Freie Universität Berlin on 14 Feb 2020 between master students of Dance Studies (users) and Chieko Ito and Natsuko Tezuka (archivists).
