Alfred Döblin Scholarship 2025 – applications now open
The Alfred Döblin Prize Foundation has been awarding residency scholarships in the Alfred Döblin House in Wewelsfleth since 1985. The house was left by Günter Grass to the federal state of Berlin for the purpose of promoting writers; the scholarships are provided to the Alfred Döblin Prize Foundation by the Senatsverwaltung für Kultur und Gesellschaften (Berlin Senate Department of Culture). The award is subject to the availability of funds. The Akademie der Künste supports the laureates and manages the Alfred Döblin House.
Due to ongoing renovation work, the Alfred Döblin Prize for 2025 will be awarded as work a stipend.Residencies in the Alfred Döblin House in Wewelsfleth will not be possible until 2026.
The purpose of the Alfred Döblin Scholarship is to promote Berlin-based writers who have proven their ability in previous publications or demonstrated their literary talent in work samples. Scholarships are usually awarded for a period of three months. Each laureate receives a monthly allowance of approximately 2,000 euros per month.
