A Suitcase for the Archives: German-speaking exile theatre in the Soviet Union
The series provides insights into the estates of exiled artists held in the Archives of the Akademie der Künste. Archive staff will open the suitcases they have brought with them and tell the stories behind special pieces they have selected.
The evening is dedicated to German-language exile theatre in the Soviet Union – the actors, stages, performances and audience reactions. The sources shed light on the imponderables on site, the improvisational talent of the acting ensembles and the cancellation of these theatre projects in 1937.
