EMOP Opening Days CONTINENT – In Search of Europe
Every two years, more than one hundred partners come together in Berlin during the European Month of Photography (EMOP) to provide an international platform for photographic art. The month opens at the Akademie der Künste on Pariser Platz with a packed programme on current issues in photography as well as with the opening of the exhibition “CONTINENT – In Search of Europe”.
The international discussion panels will focus on the structures of education using the example of European photography schools, the institutional anchoring of photography, and the repositioning of photography between the contexts of art and the mass medium, between visual art and political intervention. A separate panel will be dedicated to 1990 as the utopian and open moment of the reorganisation of Europe. Among others: Thomas Weski, Stefanie Moshammer, Susan Meiselas and Florian Ebner. A film series is dedicated to the genre of the photographic film, which, based on still images, is also perceived as a movement and comes together to form a narrative that can be as fictional as it is documentary. Outstanding works, both historical and contemporary, that bring photography (stillness) and film (movement) together to be compared will be shown.
